Norco, CA - Horse Town, USA
Norco, CA - Horse Town, USA
Hours: 24/7/365
Trailer Parking: We actually parked in the parking lot of Thrifty Horse, a local tack store. They have a large corral in front with hitching posts to tie your horse to. Parking spaces are limited! We parked across several normal parking spaces at the back of the lot, and got permission from store staff to leave the trailer there for the day. There were 2 other trailers that arrived after us and parked similarly.
Horse-Friendly: Absolutely! Norco is known as Horse Town, USA for good reason! They have equestrian trails in lieu of sidewalks, hitching posts outside many businesses, equestrian crosswalk buttons, and year-round equestrian activities. They even have an annual Horseweek to celebrate horses. Most of the local homes are built to include space for a horse (or a few) in the backyard.
What to Expect: Anything and everything! If you've ever heard of a horse being "Norco broke" it means they've seen it all, been there, done that. Our horses were afraid of some bronze wild horse sculptures we tried to walk by on the side of the mountain, but were wonderful with everything else we encountered, including heavy traffic, trucks, motorcycles, a golf course, hikers, a dog show, and hanging out in a busy parking lot. We even took them through the Taco Bell Drive-Thru for lunch!
Terrain/Difficulty: Variable. If you stick to riding in town, it is relatively flat, but you ride along some busy roads and/or through quiet neighborhoods. There is a moderately steep, rocky climb to get to Pumpkin Rock, and you have to come down the same way.
Overall Thoughts: So much fun! There is still a lot of fun things we haven't done yet, and we hope to return soon for more Norco adventures!
