Hours: 7 am - 8 pm Daily, during Summer they open at 6am
Trailer Parking: Yes! Ample parking with plenty of room to turn around and pull into spaces and spread out. They even have places where you can camp with your horses overnight with corrals (reservations required). For day use, they charge a $10 fee (cash or card), and they will direct you to the designated parking lot. We parked in the "Hunter's Lot". Day use lots do not have corrals. Note: they do not allow trailers longer than 31 feet!
Horse-Friendly: Very! Everyone we encountered on trail was very respectful of the horses. They even have designated trails just for equestrians, but we found they weren't continuous, and it was sometimes hard to find the trail markers to pick the trail back up. Note: many of the native plants there are NOT safe for horses to eat, do not let them graze!
What to Expect: You may encounter bikes, scooters, skateboards, walkers, dogs, baby strollers, boats, and other equestrians! The day use lot had water and a Port-a-Potty. A short distance away (0.25 miles), you will find a large picnic area with tables, drinking fountains, and real bathrooms. Bathroom facilities can be found at various points around the lake. Swimming in the lake is NOT permitted.
Terrain & difficulty: Mostly flat, easy terrain all the way around the lake. You can also follow trails that head towards the foothills, but we haven't explored that area yet! There is very little shade, so we recommend heading here in the Spring or late Fall, when it's not too hot out. It's about 10 miles around the circumference of the lake, and we were TIRED by the end. The equestrian trails are marked with a gold horse shoe painted into wooden posts every so often.
Overall Thoughts: Absolutely stunning scenery! Trails are well-maintained, but at some points not well marked. We would love if they added some corrals to the day-use areas. Will be too hot to go during Summer months.
