Vern Whitaker Horse Camp
Vern Whitaker Horse Camp
Trailer Parking: Yes. You must reserve and pay for your spot through their website if you want to ensure you get a certain spot or you can show up and hope you can just pay in cash at the self service station.
Horse-Friendly: Very horse friendly!
What to Expect: You may encounter hikers, for sure other equestrians, and off road jeeps.
Terrain & difficulty: This is a relatively flat trail system however you must be careful of the jumping cholla because they will get the horses.
Amenities: They do have bathrooms, showers, water for the horses, larger turn out stalls, tie rails, and wash racks. Every spot has a fire pit and grill for use.
Overall Thoughts: The trail was desert and exactly what you expect out there. Beautiful clear nights with lots of stars. Just be warned the wind out there is quite fierce. Each spot only comes with 2 horse corral reservations so if you have more than 2 you will need to pay extra per horse for each corral. They do have day-use as well if you don't want to camp, but we are not sure what the cost is.
